Hobby Infrared (IR) Remote Switch (range 7-8 metres)

It is one of my hobby circuit.I assembled it around Dec 2007.  I was interested about controlling a switch remotely. This is what this circuit does. It controls a relay by which you can on/off any home appliances like Light, Fan, Computer etc..

Please find the Electronics for you IR Switch circuit diagram to the following link:

The circuit elements are already available here in Bangladesh. But my main obstacle was the IR sensor. I tried with several locally available sensors, but none of them worked. I was stuck at this point for several days. Finally I searched for my obsolete Creative CD ROM (in those days these CD ROM had remotes). I couldn’t find the remote; but I found what I searched the ROM and this means that the IR SENSOR. I soldered this with the circuit and it worked! With my TV remote I can on/off the relay and the range was around 7-8 meters. Here is my bread-board circuit image..
